Guardian Media Group will not show any gambling-related advertisements throughout its print and on-line retailers. It believes that accepting cash to advertise companies that can lead to “habit and monetary damage” is unethical.

In an article on The Guardian web site, Guardian Media Group Chief Government Anne Bateson pointed to studies that show a correlation between exposure to these types of ads and people engaging in more gambling. She particularly has issues over on-line campaigns. Bateson acknowledged that many readers do have interaction in playing and that it “is a matter of private freedom”, affirming that the corporate has “no concern with that.”
This ban applies to most types of playing, apart from the lottery. A spokesperson defined that the rationale behind this exclusion was as a result of cash that the lottery raises for good causes and the shortage of instantaneous attracts.
Publications which might be part of the Guardian Media Group embody the Guardian, Guardian Weekly, and the Observer. The Guardian already has a self-imposed ban in place on fossil fuel-related advertisements.
